RAR-Utility Privacy Policy

How RAR-Utility 2.1 handles local archive extraction, file access, preserved output and support contact information.

Publication date: October 24, 2026.

Overview

RAR-Utility is a macOS archive extraction app operated by Songping Hong. This policy describes RAR-Utility 2.1 and how it handles files and information. You do not need to register an account or sign in to use the app.

This app policy is separate from the GetGoodApp website privacy notice.

Files and Local Processing

Archive extraction takes place on your Mac. The app reads the archives you add and writes extracted files to the output folder you choose. It does not upload archives, extracted contents, file names or file paths to the operator’s servers.

File names, paths, progress and error details are used locally to display and manage your extraction tasks. Your original archives are not automatically deleted after extraction.

Data Collection

RAR-Utility 2.1 does not collect or transmit personal information, device identifiers or usage analytics to the operator. The app does not include advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs.

Information you voluntarily send to support is handled separately, as described under Contact. Apple may handle App Store transactions and system diagnostics according to its own policies and your settings; these are not the app’s own analytics service.

Network Access and Third-Party Services

The app does not make app-initiated network requests to perform extraction and does not provide a remote API or cloud extraction service. It embeds libarchive and liblzma as local decompression components. These libraries are not online processing or tracking services.

If you choose files or output folders managed by iCloud Drive, a network volume or another storage provider, macOS or that provider may download, synchronize or transfer those files under your configuration. That activity is separate from an upload service operated by RAR-Utility.

Visiting this website, following external links or contacting support involves the relevant website, browser, Apple or email services and their data handling practices. See the GetGoodApp website privacy notice for website-specific processing.

File Access and Temporary Files

The app uses App Sandbox. You grant access by selecting archives and an output folder in macOS system file pickers or by dragging files into the app. Extraction uses access to those selected files and the chosen output location.

For each task, the app creates a uniquely named staging folder inside the selected output folder. When extraction succeeds, that folder becomes the completed output folder. The result remains on your storage device until you remove or move it.

If extraction fails, is cancelled or cannot be finalized, a hidden folder whose name starts with .rarutility-recovery- may remain in the selected output location. It can contain incomplete or complete extracted files. The app may offer access to preserved results when recoverable files exist. It does not promise immediate automatic deletion of these folders. You can review and remove unwanted files or folders using Finder.

Data Sharing

The app does not send your archives or extracted contents to the operator or share them through advertising or analytics services. The local decompression components do not receive files as remote third parties.

If you choose to email information or store files with a cloud or network provider, that sharing follows your action and the relevant provider’s practices.

Children’s Privacy

The app has no registration, advertising or tracking features designed to collect information from children. Its local file processing applies to all users. If you believe a child has sent personal information to support, contact us to discuss the information and any deletion request.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy if the app or its information handling changes. The publication or updated date shown on this page will identify the applicable revision. This policy does not describe unimplemented future features.
